Way before there was Hip Hop music or blues or jazz, people just played self-made instruments and didn’t call their music anything. It was just music. Those were the sounds that gave birth to every music genre in the world. The drums of Sri Lanka, the violins of Bologna, the bagpipes of what is now known as Iran and the mbiras of Africa all have one thing in common. They laid the necessary foundation for the classical music greats like Beethoven and Bach as well as laid the groundwork for the Hip Hop DJ mastery of Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa.
There is a man in the land of Israel by the name of Idan Raichel. In 2002 he started the Idan Raichel’s Project. Sampling the original Ethiopian sounds, he began a journey into music and into hearts of many fans all over the world. Working with musicians across country lines, inputting various cultures and energies into his effort, Idan put out multiple albums and went 3x Platinum in his last effort. Touring the whole world from Europe to the US, Middle East and Africa, the Project bears the wings of music above all.
The stage looks the same in all of their shows. It is filled with a number of authentic instruments, beautiful barefooted singers/dancers and Idan behind the piano as always. The energy of the audience, the spirit of the Project and the power of the music, all blend perfectly to triumph above all for a short 90-minute set of the performances.
