About Nyce Billy

Edward Kwaku Sekyere (born July, 14 1988) better known as Nyce Billy, is an American rapper / singer-songwriter born and raised in the Bronx, NY. He is best known for his debut single “You Madd,” featuring well-known and respected fellow NY rapper Jae Millz. Nyce Billy was discovered by Felippe “YO!” Santos and signed to YO’s independent label “Everything to Gain” (ETG). A recent (September 16, 2008) live performance of his up-coming album’s debut single “Feel So Good” landed Nyce Billy the1st place ranking at the “Faces in the Crowd” NYC industry showcase hosted by Saigon (known for appearances on HBO’s hit series Entourage). Under ETG, Nyce Billy plans to showcase his wide range of talent from Rap to R&B. His highly anticipated debut album entitled “A Bronx Tale” will be coming out in early 2009.

Early years

Nyce Billy was born in Lincoln Hospital located in the Bronx to Edmund Sekyere and Juliet Gyesie. He attended Immaculate Conception (k-8) and Cardinal Hayes (9-12). Nyce Billy’s interests include basketball, football, and most notably, music. He played basketball for Cardinal Hayes while he was a student there, and attended Belle piano classes and The Dance School of Harlem Theater.

Growing up, Nyce Billy listened to Ghanaian music, a lot of rap, and R&B. He considers LL Cool J and Mase to be his main influences because he enjoyed their entire aura, including their memorable performances, style of music, and the amount of respect and love that they received from their fans. In the fourth grade, Nyce Billy was part of a talent show and won 1st place for dancing. At age 15, he realized that he had a true passion for music and decided that he wanted to become a rap artist. To pursue this dream, at the age of 16, Nyce Billy and his friends started a rap group called “O D Camp,” which stood for “Over Due…” During this time, Nyce Billy was known as “Young Nyce.” The group performed at several talent shows, including one at Playland in Rye, NY which had an excellent turn out.

However, the group split up after two years as everyone decided to amicably go their separate ways. This split did not deter Nyce Billy. He had made a true commitment to his music and intended to keep it. Starting from that point onward, Young Nyce became known as “Nyce Billy.” With this new image, he got to work and completed several songs on his own, eventually leading him to be discovered by Felippe Santos (also known as YO!) in February 2008. Nyce Billy plans on releasing his debut album “A Bronx Tale” in early 2009.
